I had had pain and loss of coordination and strength in my arm. After many hospital tests no conclusive diagnosis was found. I am a naturally sporty person but at that time I could do very little with my arm – not even hold a pen. After hearing many positive reports about Pilates, I thought to myself “I should give it a try; after all it can’t get any worse”.
By word of mouth I came to hear about Pilates Amsterdam. I made an appointment for an introductory session and from the moment I walked through the door I felt at ease. After the first session I thought to myself “Yes! I’ve finally done something again that feels like I’ve done my arm some good”. After about six sessions I could not only hold a pen but I could also write with it. Pilates turned out to be a great solution for me. The calm during the sessions and the fact that I was put under no pressure to ‘perform’ meant that I didn’t get frustrated if I couldn’t do an exercise right away. This was great for my self-confidence.
After over half a year of classes some of the Pilates exercises have become a part of my daily life. Every day I feel the benefit of the sessions – not only in my arm but also in my posture, my flexibility and the way I move. At the moment we are focussing on strength during the sessions so that I will soon be able to do all the things I did before I got my arm complaint!
